There was lots of celebration in Tiananmen Square today. Why? China marked one year to 08.08.08 - the opening of the Beijing Summer Olympic Games!
Our Paralympic Opening Ceremonies follow immediately after on 09.06.08.
Today also marks 56 Days to the start of the US Sailing Trials in Newport, RI, the regatta which will determine which teams will represent the USA in Qingdao, the sailing venue for the Games. There are 5 teams competing for the one spot in the SKUD 18 which I sail with Nick Scandone. Only the winner of the Trials wins the right to represent our country on the world’s biggest stage. Our second regatta as a team was the Marblehead NOOD Regatta at Marblehead Race Week. Again we had the chance to test ourselves against 3 of the 4 US teams we need to beat in the US Paralympic Trials. Again, we came out on top.
At the awards ceremony, I cannot tell you how great it felt to win in my own hometown. The cheering was louder than I could ever remember and when I looked across the crowd, there were people there who knew me long before I broke my back and many of my Arts Festival friends who came out to help all the SKUD teams get off the dock each AM! Thanks also to the Viper Fleet who raised $2,500 for us in the Tinkers Challenge!
What made it even sweeter was to see so many of my fellow Jubilee Yacht Club members taking awards too!
