It has been said that Nick and I are the favorites to win the Gold Medal in the Paralympic SKUD 18 class in Beijing in September, but we need your help. Take advantage of your last opportunity to make a year end tax deductible donation. Your help will allow us to compete for the gold.
Our total budget for travel and training is close to $220,000. This includes 2 trips to China, regattas, monthly training sessions and expenses of top training partners and a training boat. Astonishingly, there is not enough financial support from US Sailing and the US Olympic Committee. The enormous commitment to compete for a gold medal is matched only by the enormity of the financial hurdle. Approximately 85% of our total budget must be sourced by us, the sailors.
Nick and I are are going to China, twice. Our current boat will be in a container, traveling back and forth to China for 5 of the 9 months between now and the Games. We need another boat to continue to train and practice with while the first boat is on a ship. Once it shipped to the US, outfitted with adaptive equipment, rigged for Olympic level competition, and fully fitted out on a trailer, the total cost is $45,000.
We are actively seeking corporate sponsors, angel donors of $20,000 and individual donations. We need your help. If you are in a position to introduce us to a potential sponsor or angel donor (or be one yourself), we need to speak with you , ASAP.
If you are able to help us with a donation of $50, $100, $250, $500, $1000 or more, we need you. Please donate online right now with your credit card. Please give what you can to help us bring back a gold medal from China for the USA! Click Here . |

Sail! Challenge! Inspireis what most Paralympic sailors do. SCI also stands for Spinal Cord Injury, which is the accidental cause of Maureen McKinnon-Tucker's paralysis and disability. Sailing liberates everyone, particularly the disabled. The boat equalizes. It empowers. Challenge -the challenge of reaching for a goal. Competition at the elite world level is a tremendous challenge. Maureen challenges herself to be the best sailor she can be every time she's on the boat. She also challenges the perceptions of some people who don't realize what a person with a disability can do. Additionally, she challenges other disabled people to move beyond their comfort zone, challenging them to do more for themselves. Inspire -Maureen doesn't see herself as an inspiration, but so many people do. She is a peer visitor and mentor for newly injured people, she founded and runs the "Gimpy Girls Brunch Club" a social networking group for women with disabilities and she often speaks, testifies and advocates for stem cell reaserch. Maureen hopes to inspire people to strive to acheive a challenge greater than themselves or for themselves. Sail, Challenge, Inspire Inc. is a Massachusetts non-profit corporation which has applied to the IRS for charitable status under Section 501(c)3. |
